📅 October 2026 release notes

Widely available

The following features are now widely available:

  • AbortSignal.timeout(): The AbortSignal.timeout() static method returns an abort signal that automatically aborts after a specified duration.
  • align-content in block layouts: The align-content property vertically aligns content in block layouts, like it does in flex or grid layouts.
  • Intl.Segmenter: The Intl.Segmenter API creates a locale-aware text splitter that can separate a string into meaningful graphemes, words, or sentences.
  • transform-box: The transform-box CSS property sets the position and dimensions of the reference box relative to which an element's transformations are calculated.

New in Chrome

The following features are now available in Chrome:

  • JPEG XL: The JPEG XL image format is a raster graphics file format that supports animation, alpha transparency, and lossy as well as lossless compression.
  • random(): The random() CSS function chooses a random numeric value within a specified range. This allows for dynamic, randomized styling using CSS.
  • Retriable module loading: You can retry importing a module that failed to import previously. Failed module imports, through the import JavaScript statement, the import() JavaScript syntax, or dynamically created <script src="…" type="module"> HTML elements, aren't cached.
  • symbols(): The symbols() CSS function defines counter styles as a value of properties such as list-style. It's an inline alternative to the @counter-style CSS at-rule.
  • text-decoration-skip-spaces: The text-decoration-skip-spaces CSS property sets whether text decoration lines (such as underlines and overlines) skip over whitespace characters. You can use this to prevent decorations from being drawn under spaces, which is sometimes more visually appealing.
  • Text import attributes: Module import … with { type: "text" } statements load text data as a string value.
